What I Do and What I Don’t Do
I am a general business and business transactional attorney. That means that I do not handle lawsuits on behalf of my clients, or go to court if I can possibly help it. (Although I do fight an occasional small claims court matter on my own behalf – just to stay in practice!)
What I do do is form corporations and limited liability companies for my clients; draft, review and negotiate contracts of all kinds, including leases and loan documents; buy and sell assets and whole businesses; advise on employment matters, including drafting employment agreements; and give sound business advice. My advice often helps keep my clients out of court by avoiding problems in the first place. Philosophy >>
Provided here is a printable list of some of the services in which I specialize. Services >> The list is not exhaustive, as I can serve any business, corporate or commercial law need for individuals and the small- to mid-size company. I have also handled relatively large matters, sometimes with the assistance of in-house staff.
I particularly specialize in the representation of companies in the security and fire protection industries. I draft contracts that comply with the Alarm Company Act and applicable consumer protection laws, and advise on compliance issues with the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services division of the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs. BSIS >> Since 1994, I have represented as legal counsel and currently serve on the Board
of Directors of the Southern California Security Association, the largest
regional trade association of security and fire alarm dealers and vendors in the
country. SCSA >>
My invaluable experience as a trained, professional mediator places me in a unique position to assist clients in working out disputes, often without the necessity of filing a lawsuit in the first place. This can save immense amounts of money rather than participating in the stressful, time-consuming and exorbitantly expensive exercise of being trapped in a protracted litigation matter.

Glenn's Philosophy in Practicing Law
What the list of services cannot describe is your experience with me and the "way" I practice law, which earns me the loyalty of the clients with whom I work. I bring a pragmatic approach to the practice of business law, because I've been in business myself. My belief is that it is critical not only to advise my clients what the law is, but what happens in the "real world," and to give concrete recommendations based on my many years of experience.
While I aggressively and forcefully represent the interests of my clients, I attempt to avoid confrontational tactics which I believe are counterproductive. I practice "preventive law," which is like preventive medicine -- a little time and effort now prevent bigger problems from arising in the future.

Terms
I charge substantially less than what most firms are charging for the high level of service I provide. My current rate is $400 per hour, plus 5% of the legal fees as a surcharge for office expenses (instead of an itemized listing of every small office expense, such as copies, faxes, postage and long-distance phone calls).
I also make alternative fee arrangements, such as fixed fee or retainer-based terms. Most alarm company contracts and other documents are handled on a fixed fee basis, as are simple incorporations. [Fixed fee matters are normally not subject to the overhead surcharge.]
I require an advance deposit of fees or a retainer. Clients are expected to understand that if an estimate of hours and fees to complete a matter is given, it is just that – an estimate only and not a guarantee. Clients are expected to pay the full amount of invoiced fees, even if they exceed the hours and/or fees originally estimated. I do attempt to communicate with my clients during the pendency of a matter, so that there are no "nasty surprises" at the end of the month when the bill arrives.
Please note that I do not charge for an initial consultation or for brief answers to simple legal questions. Feel free to call me at any time to answer any questions you may have or if I can be of service to you or anyone you may know.
